Short Pump Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Virginia

Located about a 20-minute drive from the center of Richmond, Virginia in Henrico County, the Far West End community of Short Pump offers current residents and future homeowners a plethora of housing options, as well as access to excellent schools and colleges, plenty of shopping, and just as much outdoor recreation. Sperling's Best Places web site has even recognized the community of Short Pump as one of the best places to live within the Richmond metro area. Additionally, Short Pump offers residents a variety of affordable real estate with listing prices starting as low as $110,000.

Many often wonder how this fast-growing community's name came about. Many residents and local historians will tell you that it all started with a tavern for weary travelers, including Thomas Jefferson. This tavern included a water pump for travelers' horses, which was eventually covered by a porch. With not enough clearance or money to dig a new well, the owners of the tavern decided the easiest solution was to shorten the pump handle and shaft. Since then the tavern was nicknamed the "Short Pumped Tavern" by patrons and over the years, roads, outposts, grocery stores and other landmarks adopted the name Short Pump, which has evolved into the community that it is today. From its humble beginnings as a rural area, Short Pump is now a quickly-growing community that many families, retirees and professionals have set their sights on to live, work, and play.
